Confidence

In keeping with the topic of the Election, I wanted to write to you briefly about “Confidence”.

As you know I owned and operated Martial Arts Schools for over 10 years day in and day out and one of the primary things parents bring their kids in for was and still is Confidence. This is of course achieved over a period of time and primarily with positive reinforcement and many accomplishments felt by the individual through various rank advancements and lots of little “wins” in between.

In dealing with the economy and talking with several clients over the past couple weeks and adjusting strategies continuously it has come up more often…this whole notion of confidence, positive thinking, believing in yourself and what you’re doing.

A couple saying to bring out the point…

I remember Dan Kennedy describing the life as an Entrepreneur as one “where we wake up and go out into the real world where they eat the young everyday” making a point of the ruthlessness of life and business.

Now, with perhaps the most important election of our lifetime (of course they’re all important) it made me think of another quote I’ve heard before, goes something like this, “only someone arrogant enough to think they actually deserve and are capable to rule the free world could run for president” or said another way by ultra wealthy successful business people on why there are not more “qualified” candidates…”because the ones who are best qualified are TOO SMART to run!”

Anyhow, a political side note, there is one very capable and proven candidate running for president which I’m proud to support, the choice is yours, not the point of this or my position to attempt to influence you one way or another, at least for now J

What strikes me so much about Politicians is the strong, perhaps stubborn will, and belief that:

1. They will WIN

2. They are RIGHT

3. They are the Best One

And despite the overwhelming criticism, vile comments, and very naked life that comes before the entire world – they must stay and the goods ones do, STRONG and CONVICTED in their mission.

Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer are always talking about the most important behavior of Successful Entrepreneurs, as outline in the Renegade Millionaire System, is IMMUNITY TO CRITICISM!!!

Without a doubt this is something we should learn and strive for, as apparent by Senator McCain and Senator Obama.

Can you image what it’s like to be hated by basically 50% of the entire country…because that’s what it comes down to, polls and approval ratings, liberal media and opinion aside, 50/50.

Of course you’re striving for better results with your customers…

But the point – in your life as an entrepreneur – how do you handle Criticism…do you hide under the covers and let your dreams die, do you shy away from opportunity and settle for less than deserved results, success, and monetary gain because of the people around you or the voices in your head.

My very favorite quote from George W Bush, like him or hate him, is instructive for all of us, when at a press conference sometime a few years back, someone ask him why he was so stubborn and “set in his ways with his direction on things” and he responded without hesitation:

“I have to be, if I don’t set my agenda someone else will!”

Now, history will tell on the results of said agenda. But for You and Me, us now, here in our life and in this economy and world of opportunity…

Who’s setting your agenda:

Your Price.

Your Time.

Your Attitude.

Your Behaviors.

Your Business.

Your Bank Account.

ARE YOU SETTING YOUR AGENDA or is someone else?

Next time you see McCain or Obama, keep your opinions inside and notice their conviction, their belief, their certainty of what they are doing…

And strive to do the same with your customers and in your life.

Of course you can’t do it, or anything alone and that’s why it’s so important to be plugged into our Success Environment with other Entrepreneurs who face the same challenges, strive for similar accomplishments, and share in your frustrations and successes.

Combat the critics, unlock your potential, strengthen your position, and set your agenda.

You’ve found the place and it’s yours for the taking – think of our Chapter Meetings like your “campaign headquarters” like a National Convention that repeats every month – on your way to the “big white house” whatever that may mean for you and your life.

As I write this, I still feel like I’m flying through the air and on a high from the past two days in Baltimore at the Peak Performers meeting. I hope my email finds you and your family doing well.

I’d like to take a moment and share with you a little recap of my day with Dan in Baltimore…this Peak Performers was jam packed like all the Mastermind/Coaching Days are with Bill Glazer and Lee Milteer – however, this was different because Dan Kennedy ‘the man’ himself, presented the entire second day.

And perhaps this time more than any other I took away some amazing “basic building blocks” for business that I’d not really thought of the way Dan explained them.

Why this is significant is because Dan was, at the same time, recording a new Glazer-Kennedy “catch you up to speed and teach you what we’re all about” business education modules for New Members. Which in plain English means it was elementary and review for someone who’s been around as long as I have on Planet Dan.

Yet, I took more away than normal.

This reminds me of a saying that I’ve probably mentioned here before – “Champions don’t need to be told, they just need to be remind!” And I can betcha this, the recently finished Olympics and the Athletes who starred in them, like Michael Phelps et al, are always looking for an “edge” – but what makes them Champions is the focus and precision on the BASICS.

Dan covered four ultra important topics that should ring home to you:

1. How to choose a market – deciding WHO you want your customer to be
2. What business are we really in and how to craft a message to match the market
3. Understanding Transaction Value & Customer Conversion tied to Lifetime Value
4. And how to capitalize on the Affluent Market and what to do within your business

Make It Personal

After both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions one strategy resonated with me that all entrepreneurs should be applying. No, I am not talking about slandering your competitors. If you watched the candidates’ speeches you heard them all doing the same thing – telling their story.

If you aren’t already using your personal story in your business you are making a big mistake. Stories allow people to connect you, relate with you, and trust you. Sarah Palin told the story of how she started in the PTA at her children’s school. Most mothers in the country and every PTA member can relate with that story. Your job is to do the same with your audience.

Every chance I get I tell the story of how I became involved with Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer. In fact, most of you have heard my personal story. It started with my martial arts schools and I was looking for answers on how to be more successful. After traveling cross country to a boot camp in Denver, I found out the martial arts guru was actually a student of Dan Kennedy. After devouring the Dan Kennedy library and becoming part of the Insider’s Circle – I wanted more, so I took part in becoming a Dan Kennedy Certified No B.S. Business Advisor.

Now, why do I tell this story? First, my audiences are entrepreneurs so by telling them that I have been one myself for over a decade, they can relate to me. Furthermore, they know that I wanted to make my business more successful and I needed help – exactly where some of them are right now. Finally, conveying my constant search for information, my past entrepreneurial experiences, and sheer passion for business – my audiences know they can trust what I have to say.

Here is your homework – write down your personal story. Make sure it relates with your audience and makes you the expert. That’s not all – then you have to apply to your business through your marketing. This will not take as long as you think and can have a huge impact of sales, retention, and ascension.

I hope this email finds you and your family doing well and that you had a nice Labor Day Weekend. Lots going on around here…the same with you, I’m sure.

Anyhow, I’m going to be brief this week with a couple funny stories to share with you again next week. For now I just want to say…

AMERICA is amazing and money is all around us!

Last weekend I was in Chicago and over Labor Day weekend in St. Louis…I’ve got to tell you – IT WAS PACKED and BUSINESS was JUMPING! Malls, Restaurants, Attractions, Traffic, you name it – sold out, lines waiting, prices premium…life is good in America!

It gets me excited to see success in action and capitalism alive and well. No doubt, you’ve got to be working hard, smart, and in all the right places, but money is there to make you rich.

Like I said last week – if you want more…DO MORE! Business is complicated, but that principle is SIMPLE and will make you rich.

I’ll share more next week…right now, I want you to do 2 things:

2. take a moment and write down your plan to double your income by the end of the year – do it now, commit to it, and take action and put things in motion!

It’s amazing to feel the energy and the profit in the room at the Chapter Meetings, and the intense focus and helpful attitudes of our Mastermind Groups.

We’re fortunate to have found Planet Dan and our little piece of it in Indianapolis is rocking and rolling better than ever, more members mean more people to get ideas from, join forces with, collaborate resources, etc.

So, I want to take a moment to say THANK YOU and let you know how excited I am about the success of our GKIC Indianapolis Chapter and the things that lie ahead in the near future.
